The Royal Family have been murdered during an important religious ceremony during which all the faithful seclude themselves in their rooms. The one foreigner in the Palace at the time was the Court Mage, Anciarin en Suadh, whose flight shortly after the Sun Change ceremony is seen as proof of his guilt. While the court goes through the upheaval of choosing a new king of the Royal Lineage, Iashar, an agent of the General of the Royal Guards, is handling the pursuit of the fugitive, but in the process he is finding that things are not as clear as they first seemed.
